March of Dimes is an organization based on the principles of fighting for “the health of all moms and babies”. Their work supports research and funds programs providing education and advocacy for families to have a healthy beginning. March of Dimes has helped millions of babies survive and are now advocating for maternal health and policies prioritizing it. Their original beginnings started with President Franklin D. Roosevelt’s struggle with polio but later evolved into the National Foundation for Infantile Paralysis, also known as March of Dimes.
Key Club International has been a proud national service partner of March of Dimes and has worked to raise money for this cause since 1978. Key Club continues to raise awareness and conduct fundraising activities notably through the local march for babies. In addition, Kiwanis members continue the service by supporting the March of Dimes all year long by hosting service projects, raising funds and educating communities about the crisis of preterm birth. November is Prematurity Awareness Month—an important time to raise awareness of the maternal and infant health crisis of preterm birth and ask for lifesaving donations in honor of World Prematurity Day, November 17. The U.S. remains among the most dangerous developed nations for childbirth. Prematurity affects too many moms and babies and is fueled significantly by disparities in our health care system, communities and institutions.
