My Experience at SLC

The Service and Leadership Conference is an event held annually in the Georgia District to help celebrate the end of another service year and the beginning of the next. Hear from one of our members on her experience at SLC!

Teresa Miguel, Lt. Governor of divisions 10 & 11

"The Service and Leadership Conference was an amazing experience for me and my Kiwanis journey. I was only involved at the club level with Key Club. I enjoyed helping, serving, and fundraising for my community! I never knew that Key Club could be so much more at the District level and the International level. I was the only member from my school to attend SLC. In the beginning I was nervous to go because I didn’t know anyone and what would be going on, all I knew was I had a passion for Key Club and I wanted to take that to another level!

I got there and there was a lot of people from all over Georgia that was involved with a Key Club, it was incredible and extremely welcoming!!! My roommates were awesome and kind! We went to sessions like a Georgia Sheriff Youth Home class that showed us more insight on how they provide for abused, neglected, or abandoned children and how much Key Club has contributed to helping GSYH!! We also got a free shirt which I adore!! It reminds me of why Key Club fundraises and how important it is! We attended a session that informed us about Yuda Bands that help fund a child’s education!! I even bought a bracelet for my niece!! We also created bags filled with shampoo, soaps, toothbrushes, lotion, etc to give to the homeless in Atlanta! For entertainment, we had a Hypnotist there and he told us that he was also in Key Club!! He was from my high school club, Habersham Central High School Key Club!!! SLC made me realize that Key Club has a greater impact that I’ve never notice before! It definitely made me proud to be a Key Club member!"
