Advisors, what do they do?

Written by Nicholas Nettles, Lt. Governor of Division 3

Both Kiwanis and Club Advisors play a crucial role in a club's operations. As a club advisor, you serve as both a mentor and leader to your students. As a mentor, your guidance helps aid students to develop into better student leaders. Members will have to learn from both their successes and failures. Advisors are responsible for hosting and monitoring elections to elect their student officers for the upcoming service year. As a leader, you will need to inspire your club. As previously mentioned, members will have to learn from their mistakes. Use this as an opportunity to build your members up. Additionally, you can use every opportunity as a teaching moment for your student leaders and members.

Finally, one of the most important things for advisors to remember is commitment. Key Club prides itself on being a student-led organization; however, in order for members to be successful, they need a committed advisor. An outstanding advisor is one that is committed to their responsibilities, such as: ensuring all projects and events are acceptable under school regulations, advocating for Key Club at your school so administration and faculty understand our goals, attend all meetings and help maintain order as needed, stay informed about divisional, district, and international events and projects, and more! The level of commitment that advisors give to their members is reflective of the commitment that advisors will receive from their members. Essentially, make sure your club is working together to provide each other with the opportunities to promote service and community well-being.

Key Club International provides a wealth of resources and information that can be utilized to create a successful service year. Advisors may find some of these resources below. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to your respective Lieutenant Governor on the Georgia District Board and they will be happy to help! Thank you for your hard work and dedication to bettering your community!
