Key Leader Camp

By Andrea Manning, Lt. Governor Division 8

Key Leader Camp is an exciting 3-day leadership camp experience. This past March was my second year attending. I served as a student facilitator which gave me the opportunity to apply the skills I acquired the previous year. Over the three days we held seminar style lessons on service leadership, participated in many group activities, built “neighborhoods”, and practiced teamwork through a ground ropes course. Our “neighborhoods” consisted of about eight Key Leaders who we spent the majority of the weekend collaborating with on numerous projects and exploring what it means to truly serve others while leading. The ropes course managed to disappoint many as we passed by a sky high rock climbing wall with a bridge ladder that we assumed was the ropes course only to find ourselves planted firmly on the ground tossing a ball around, practicing trust falls, and (eventually) pushing each other through a car tire that was about 5 feet off the ground. Despite our general dismay, we still managed to have an awesome time and grow closer as a team and as individual leaders. Overall, my two years attending Key Leader camp were invaluable moments that I am grateful to have been able to experience.
