Key Club’s Impact on Me

By Jake Kwon, Lt. Governor of Divisions 11 & 14

The one event that summarizes the radical transformation I experienced during my high school career is joining Key Club, an organization dedicated to providing service to the community and building character and leadership of future leaders.

Just as a member, I gained incredible insight about my identity: my passion in life is to serve, and putting others before myself has become a part of who I am.

As an officer, I learned to take the responsibility of a large group of Key Clubbers as my own and to manage the club in order to give ample opportunities to the members. From organizing and leading meetings to handling finances for fundraisers, I have acquired leadership skills that are still applicable to my life today and will guide me in the future.

During my junior year of high school, I was able to introduce a service project called Yuda Bands, which is an organization that sponsors the education for children situated in Guatemala through the sale of handmade bracelets. Lambert Key Club sold 376 bands and raised $2,636.87 to not only fully support the education of Osny Garcia but also help contribute to another child’s education. Such acts of service form the constituents of my character; my love for others defines who I am. Without Key Club, I would not be where I am today.
